THE SAN DIEGO AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM

We offer classes, family days, workshops, tours, outreach programs, traveling exhibits, summer camps, competitions, public programs, and much more to inspire and inform audiences of all ages. The museum’s collection is only the beginning for many of our visitors --- we seek to explain and interpret in engaging and exciting ways that help make the museum relevant and informative to visitors and our local community.

At a time when it is becoming increasingly harder for schools to fund field trips, and we are seeing a shortfall in the numbers of college students needed for engineering and science careers, we feel more strongly than ever that our work is vital. We aim to inspire not just in the areas of engineering and science, but in history and the arts as well. By offering intriguing hands-on experiences, we can help provide the keys to greater learning. Science and technology are parts of our everyday lives --- and can be fun!

POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM

http://www.jfssd.org/site/PageServer?pagename=programs_youth_positive_parenting

The Positive Parenting Program is an evidenced-based curriculum proven to reduce parent stress and anxiety when dealing with common yet challenging childhood behaviors. Typical issues that we have found parents are looking for help with include tantrums, whining, sharing and sleeping issues in younger children. Common behaviors in older children include aggression, trips to the store, and disobedience.  If you are struggling with these or other common childhood behavior problems, we can help!

Our basic program consists of a series of 3 workshops. Each workshop is approximately 2 hours and accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation, specialized materials and time for questions.  A second component is also available; this is a series of four 30 minute individual sessions with an accredited Positive Parenting Educator.  The basic program is funded by the County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agency and therefore is free to parent in the San Diego community. The second component is funded privately and is also free to parent in the San Diego community. For households who have a parent with recent or active military service, a broader range of free services are also available.

THE BABY BRAIN

http://www.zerotothree.org/baby-brain-map.html

The Brain Map was adapted in 2006 by ZERO TO THREE from BrainWonders, a collaborative project (1998-2001) between Boston University School of Medicine, Erikson Institute and ZERO TO THREE.

To get started, select an age range from the pull-down menu and click on it. Depending on the age range, different hotspots on the brain will appear. Click on a hotspot to reveal questions to find out how a baby's brain develops during this period of brain growth. You'll also learn what you can do to enrich a very young child's development.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

www.safeandwell.org  A service of the American Red Cross to provide a number to call and leave information that you are safe and well. Family members can call into the service and find out about your well being. This call is treated as an out of state call so it has an higher probability of working in an emergency. The service does need prior information before an emergency.
